Obituary of Vernette Evelyn Withers

Vernette Evelyn (Ohs) Withers, 85, of Woodstock, CT, died December 27, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at UMASS Memorial Hospital in Worcester, MA. She was born in Worcester, MA, December 7, 1931 to William and Evelyn (Strand) Ohs. When she was 10, her family moved to Thompson, CT. She was the beloved wife of Ernest T. Withers who predeceased her on Jan. 2, 2010. Married on February 17, 1951 in Woodstock, CT where they resided all their lives. She graduated in 1950 from Tourtellotte Memorial High School in Thompson, CT Valedictorian of her class. She was a longtime member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Woodstock, CT, where she was in the choir; co taught Sunshine Corner (in the 1980's) and was a faithful prayer warrior. She leaves behind her seven children: Kevin of Woodstock, Brent of Charlestown, NH, Jeffrey of S. Acworth, NH, David of Woodstock, Natalie and husband Mark Parker of Woodstock, Daniel and his wife Cheryl of Woodstock, Michael of Chicago, IL, 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, two great great grandsons, nieces, nephews and many cousins, a brother, Lawrence (Marjorie) Ohs of Holden, MA, a sister-in-law Gladys Ekman of MD, sister-in-law Sally (Andy) Hooker of Lubbock, TX, and brother-in-law William (Delores) Withers of Auburn, MA. She was an avid reader, always having a book handy at all times. She enjoyed going out to lunch with her "Tourtellotte girls" once a month. Along with spending time with her family. She loved the Lord with all her heart and now rests in His Loving Arms. The family would like to thank the people at Westview Rehabilitation for their loving care of Vernette while she was there in Nov. and Dec. A Memorial Service for Vernette will be held Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 1:00 pm, at the Evangelical Covenant Church 24 Child Hill Rd. Woodstock, CT.
