Aunt Maureen was very much like Grandma Frances (McCormac); polite, soft-spoken, gracious, and kind. And, like grandma, a truly great baker. I always looked forward to her amazing array of Christmas cookies -- enjoyimg them at the family house in Greenville or at the Lohneis' house for our annual Christmas-time reunions.
My first memories of her go back to the late 60s when we would visit the McMerriman apartment over in Taftville, near the drive-in. And for many years, we would swap hosting Thanksgiving dinner.
Aunt Maureen was also a regular with Uncle Gene for our CYO basketball games back in the late 70s (played at Kelly Jr. High) -- when the Preston boys from St. Catherine's would come to Norwich to play St. Patrick. And while I don't specifically recall Jimmy and Timmy referring to her as "Colombo," it was likely a well-deserved nick-name for her considering the (justified) detective work required. I should know. I may have often been an occasional key "witness" or even co-defendant.
Aunt Maureen was a loving aunt who I will miss very much.

Aunt Maureen you will be missed dearly. Thank you for one of my favorite childhood memories. I will always remember going to Aunt Pat & Uncle Bob's house for Christmas and you coming in with that huge platter of cookies. The cousins and I couldn't wait to sneak into the kitchen and steal those Christmas cookies before they were "officially" unwrapped for all to share. We all had our favorites and we couldn't wait to get our hands on those delicious cookies. My favorite were your chocolate pillows. I am so grateful that you shared that recipe with me to pass on to my daughter. I love you Aunt Maureen. Rest in peace.
