Thursday, January 11, 2018Please take note that the Celebration of Jacob's life welcomes Carharts or jeans. Jacob would of wanted it that way. Also, in lieu of flowers, please donate to a cause of choice, such as, Make A Wish Foundation or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. On our last family vacation we had the pleasure of meeting a Make A Wish recipient. Your donation would please Jacob very much. Thank you for your love, prayers, support, kind words and thoughtfulness! Love to all, Amy, Richard, and Caleb

Monday, January 8, 2018Jacob Bowen is the young man with the sparkling eyes and the continuous smile, and that is how I will remember him. Over the years, Jacob has always greeted my family and I with a smile and a wave of greeting. During walks around the village, I saw Jacob grow from a wee lad to a fine young man. Through these years I watched him work with a team of cows, drive farming equipment, and care for his family’s property. Occasionally we shared chats on the side of the road, he inquired about my kids or spoke of his plans and introduced me to his dog. Jacob was a bright young man and he thought about a collegiate life, but he always seemed most at home with fresh air and hard work. Jacob also was a considerate young man. I recall one evening eight or nine years ago when the northeast was hit with a blizzard and a tremendous amount of snow. My kids and I were shoveling our driveway trying to keep up with the volume of snow fall. As we were taking a break from our work, we heard a motorized vehicle outside our house. We went outside and discovered that Jacob was operating a payloader at the end of our drive. This young man impressed me with his thoughtfulness and initiative, and he steadfastly refused anything in return. And as he departed, I saw his radiant smile as he went back down the road toward his house. May you rest in peace Jacob.

Monday, January 8, 2018When I first met Jacob as a sophomore he was a squirrely little guy, highly prone to minor mischief, but he was also as sweet natured and honest as the day is long. He was crazy about his team of young oxen so when he asked if I could help him make a new ox yoke of course I said yes. By the time he graduated Jacob had taken every single class that I taught. One of my fondest memories of Jacob is from the day he graduated. The ceremony had just ended but when I looked for him to say goodby he was nowhere to be found. Then just as I was preparing to leave, getting on my motorcycle in the faculty parking lot I heard Jacob calling my name. From across the lot he came running up to me all grins and enthusiasm because he couldn’t let me go without giving me a big hug. That's exactly who Jacob was, one of the kindest, most transparently genuine souls that I’ve ever had the privilege to know.

Monday, January 8, 2018I remember Jacob collecting maple sap with me when he was no more than 5 years old, just because he wanted to help. Holding the bucket handle up around his ear because he was too small to carry it any other way, and smiling the whole time. He was the same Jacob even then, a wonderful kid and terrific person who loved hard work. No words can express our sadness at such a cruel loss.

Monday, January 8, 2018Dear Richard, Amy, Caleb and Claire, There are no words to adequately express how incredibly heart-broken and saddened we were to hear of Jacob's passing. We remember all the happy days our 5 boys spent over the years in the OSV Summer Camp. They were so bone-tired at the end of each day, but always came up the exit trail with big smiles on their faces, and with Jacob having the biggest of all. His care for others and enthusiasm for life will always live on in our hearts. We hope that your fond memories of Jacob help to carry you during this most difficult time. In sympathy, Anthony, Anne, Daniel, Michael and Christopher.

Monday, January 8, 2018I know how this feels, and I am just so sorry for the devastation you are dealing with. There’s a saying time heals all wounds. Not true, but what time does give you is an education on learning to live with it, and an overwhelming appreciation for our family and life. We never quite realize the true depths of our love until we suffer something as devastating as this. You now know, and you will never forget how deep that love runs. In time you will utilize that. You’re in my family’s thoughts and prayers

Monday, January 8, 2018So sorry for your loss. I have been remembering the times that our four boys spent together and some of the stuff they did. Certainly not your typical kid behavior of this day and age. When I took them to the pond fishing and they all piled out of the truck, stripped to their underwear and yelled, "We can do this because we are farm boys," as they proceeded to jump into the pond. Yes they were, and will always be at heart. A romp through the pasture led to a cow manure fight and subsequent hosing down. The love of all animals. Chickens for 4H and with Bill. Oxen 4H. Lake Compounce. These memories will never be lost, but now serve as a reminder to all about how precious life is and is not to be taken for granted. Find strength in these and all of your memories of Jacob to continue on. Find help in family and friends who truly want to help but don't know what to do. Surround yourselves with hope and courage to continue. Know that everyone's prayers are with you and that you are loved. Sadly, but sincerely, Lynn.
