Jeannette Veleda Cartier, 83, died Sunday, January 19, 2014 at Regency Heights in Danielson. She was born March 30, 1930 in Putnam, the daughter of the late Edouardina (Garceau) and Fernand Phaneuf, Sr.
Jeannette was raised in Woodstock and was a graduate of Putnam Catholic Academy. While attending PCA, she worked at Montgomery Ward as a secretary. During this time she met the love of her life John R. "Jack" Cartier whom she married in June of 1949. They were together until his passing in March of 2011. Jeannette and Jack enjoyed their many adventures traveling abroad, across the US, their numerous cruises and spending time at the beach. She especially loved Paris!
Jeannette had several hobbies, including knitting, sewing and reading. She also had a great love for education and continued to take college courses throughout her life. Jeannette was the CEO and "boss" of Eastern Estimating and never let Jack forget it. Most of all she was the loving Matriarch of the Cartier family and will be missed very much. She made her home in Woodstock CT, Brewster MA, and Dunedin FL. She returned to Connecticut in 2009.
Jeannette was predeceased by her son, John E. Cartier of Woodstock in 2004. She is survived by her daughter, Judith Favreau and her husband Roland of Woodstock Valley; her son, Jeffrey Cartier and his wife Alice of Harwich, MA; her brother, Fernand Phaneuf Jr. and his wife Lorraine of Woodstock, her grandchildren: Danielle Bedard and her husband Matt; John C. Cartier; Jay Goodier and his wife Kim; Jesse Goodier and his wife Kathleen; Nicole Favreau; Brad Favreau and his wife Amy; Jamie Cartier and her fiancé Jonathan Poulin; Wesley Cartier, four great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and numerous friends. The family would like to thank the staff of Regency Heights and Day Kimball Hospital for the compassionate care and dedication to their mother.
