Obituary of Allen G. Slye
Allen G. Slye, 86, of Whipple St. Putnam, died Tuesday at home. Born February 15, 1920, in Putnam, son of the late Fred and Esther Mary (Hall) Slye.
He was an Army Veteran of World War II serving in Rhineland and Central Europe, he received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Campaign Ribbion and the Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged January 12, 1946. He was a Truck Driver working as a Farm Hand on farms in Putnam and Killingly, he also worked ten years for WJ Burns Co. in Hartford. An active and life member of the East Killingly VFW # 4908, serving 5 terms as Commander, the Putnam American Legion, the D.A.V., and the AMVETS Post #10 and the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge.
He leaves a daughter, Jo Morgan of Putnam; three step daughters, Beverly Colburn of S. Killingly, Vivian Bowen of S. Killingly, Dorothy Auger of S. Killingly; nieces, nephews and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Virginia (Carr) Slye; brothers, Frank Slye, James Slye.
Funeral Service will be Friday at 10:00 AM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, Calling Hours Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial with Military Honors in Grove Street Cemetery. To share a memory with his family Light a Candle at www.smithandwalkerfh.com
