Obituary of Thomas A. Bennett
Thomas A. Bennett, 83, of Deerfield Road, Pomfret Center, died Monday evening at the Day Kimball Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Margaret (Shore) Bennett; they were married January 7, 1950 in Bloomington, Ill. He was born May 11, 1921 in Peoria, Ill, son of the late Clarence and Freda (Weiss) Bennett.
He worked as an equipment engineer for 41 years, with Western Electric Company and AT & T. He retired in 1983. He had made his home in Pomfret for the last seven years. He also had made his home in Putnam, Plainfield and North Haven. He was a member of the HighPointe Church in Thompson. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. He enjoyed playing Golf, his computer and tinkering with electronics. He was a Justice of the Peace for the Town of North Haven and was a Republican and was active with the Republican Party in North Haven for many years. He owned and operated TAB-Reinking for ten years. He will be remembered as a Loving and Devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He leaves in addition to his wife a son Dale R. Bennett and his wife Debbie of Plano, TX; two daughters Terri Pearsall and her husband William of Putnam; Cathy Johns and her husband Timothy of Hamden; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The Funeral Service will be Friday at 10:00 AM in the Highpoint Church, 1208 Thompson Road, Thompson, CT. Calling hours Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT. Burial in Grove Street Cemetery, Putnam. Flowers are welcome, if desired; donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 238 West Town Street, Norwich, CT 06360.
