Obituary of Anne Woodbridge Pickford
Anne Woodbridge Pickford of Pomfret died Monday night at her home of lung disease. She was 74 years old. She was born Anne Sydney Woodbridge on May 20, 1930 in Boston, to Dorothy and Henry Woodbridge.
She attended the Park School in Brookline, Massachusetts until 1941 when her family moved to Pomfret. There she attended the two-room schoolhouse. She went on to Concord Academy, in Concord, Massachusetts, and the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts, where she studied drawing and silversmithing. In 1952, Anne married Charles Perry Howze of Mclean, Virginia. They had two daughters, Susan Perry and Anne Randolph. That marriage ended in divorce. In 1964 she married California sportsman and hotelier, William C. Pickford. That marriage ended with Pickfords death from cancer four years later. At the age of 44, Anne moved to New York and became a model. Older models were practically unheard of at that time, but Anne persevered with her beliefs that beauty is not just the province of the young, but a gift of the spirit for women of all ages. She took on the professional name of Kaylan, and with photographer J. Frederick Smith, collaborated on two books, WHEN IS A WOMAN and ALWAYS A WOMAN. Anne moved back to Pomfret in 1990. She is survived by her brother, Henry S. Woodbridge, Jr. of Portland, Maine, her sister, Victoria Hall of Pomfret; her companion, J. Frederick Smith and her two daughters, Susan Perry Howze and Anne Randolph Howze both of Mount Cuchama, California. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at the Christ Church, Route 169, Pomfret.
