Obituary of Anna P. Mellen

Anna P. Mellen, age 89, of Woodstock, Connecticut, passed away on Wednesday November 17, 2004, from the results of a stroke, at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts. She married Richard H. Mellen on June 25, 1942, just before he left to serve in World War II. On his return they settled in Woodstock. He died in 1954. She was born May 27, 1915 in Franklin, NH, daughter of the late Morris and Mary (Scott) Petersen, moved with her family from Grafton, New Hampshire to Branford, Connecticut and then at the age of 8 to North Woodstock in 1923.

After graduating from Woodstock Academy in 1933, she completed a Nursing Degree from Franklin Hospital in Franklin, NH. During her nursing career and while raising two children, Anna served as a registered nurse in private practice and was employed by Harrington Hospital in Southbridge, MA and by the Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. During her tenure at Day Kimball she was Evening Supervisor. After her retirement, Anna served many volunteer hours at the hospital. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Woodstock and enjoyed her animals, working outside, and time with her children, their spouses and her grandchildren and their children,and her friends.

She leaves a daughter Margaret ST Jean and her husband Ernie of North Woodstock, a son Richard Mellen, and his wife Patricia of South Killingly, a brother M. Scott Petersen and his wife Marilyn of East Woodstock, six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a great grandson Christopher ST Jean.

A Memorial Service will be Sunday at 3:00 PM at the First Congregational Church of Woodstock, Route 169, Woodstock, CT. There are no calling hours. Burial in Center Cemetery, Woodstock. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Day Kimball Hospital, Volunteer Program, PO Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260.
