Obituary of Michael Chobociak
Michael Chobociak, age 83, of Cutler Hill Road, Woodstock, Connecticut, died Sunday at home. He was born November 8, 1921 in New Haven, son of the late Michael and Katherine (Kwiatowski) Chobociak. He made his home in Woodstock since 1973, moving from Branford. He was a communicant of ST Stanislaus Church, New Haven. Michael was a machinist and worked at the Russell Harrington Company in Southbridge for 12 years, he retired in 1988. He had previously worked for Winchester Company in New Haven for 5 years, the Yellow Freight Company in Orange for 5 years and for several years served the Town of Woodstock as the Assistant Dog Warden. He was a builder, his hobbies over the years included building three homes and two houseboats/cabincruisers. He also cared for Sig and Carol Swanbergs horses, feeding and grooming them for over 10 years. He was an avid motorcycle rider, enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and the outdoors. In 1948 he rode his Harley Davidson from New Haven to Reno, NV. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the US Navy aboard the USS Denver and was honorably discharged December 22, 1945. He was awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon (two stars), the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, (two bronze stars, one silver star), Letter of Commendation, Victory Ribbon. He leaves two daughters Carla Jean Sheldon of Pomfret, Patricia Woehrman and her husband Scott of Woodstock, four grand children Bang-Lee Tran, Shane Lee Sheldon, Bonnie Jean Foisey, and Ashley Rose Foisey. A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, December 2, at 10:30 AM at the Most Holy Trinity Church, Routes 169 and 44, Pomfret, followed by Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Hospice and Palliative Care of CT VNA, 20 Furnace Street, Danielson, CT 06239. Smith & Walker Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
