Obituary of Ramona P. Nelson

Ramona P. Nelson , age 75 of Woodstock Road, Pomfret, died Monday at the Windham Hospital after a brief illness. She was born February 27, 1929 in Elmville section of Killingly, daughter of the late Carl L. and Della A. (Pisz) Sears. She had made her home in Pomfret for over fifty years and was a communicant of Most Holy Trinity Church. She was a graduate of Killingly High School Class of 1947. Ramona worked as a Nurses Aid at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam for thirteen years (1951-1963), and later for the Town of Pomfret as a Driver for the Special Education Children (1965-1978). Her last employment was with the John Dempsey Regional Center in Putnam; she was a Bus Driver and operated the Snack Bar for 19 years, retiring in 1997. She enjoyed flower gardening and cooking. She leaves a son: William Nelson of Dana Point, CA; two daughters: Kathie Hess ofPomfret; Lori Giambattista of Brooklyn; a brother: Paul F. Sears of Brooklyn; her grandchildren: Heidi Corey; Becky Billington; Gretchen Hess; Jessie Hess; Allison Giambattista; Tyler Nelson;two great grandchildren: Gavin and Meghan Corey; her former husband: William Nelson; she was predeceased by a daughter, Chrissie Baker in 1997; a son, Gary Nelson in 2004. A Memorial Mass will be Saturday January 8th at 1:00 PM at Most Holy Trinity Church, Routes 169 and 44, Pomfret, CT. Calling Hours Friday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home 148 Grove Street, Putnam. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Chrissie Nelson Baker and Carl Sears Memorial Fund, c/o Citizens National Bank P.O. Box 6002, Putnam, CT 06260.
