Obituary of Raymond J. Jolly

Raymond Pete Jolly, 77, of Providence Street, Putnam, died Saturday morning at the Day Kimball Hospital inn Putnam. He was the beloved husband of Joanne (Wojtasiewicz) Jolly; they were married November 10, 1951 in ST Mary Church in Turners Fall, Mass. He was born August 29, 1927 in Woodstock, CT, son of the late Adelard and Yvonne (Bourbeau) Jolly. He made his home in Putnam all his life, a communicant of ST Mary of the Visitation Church in Putnam. He was employed for over twelve years as a Maintainer at the H H Ellis Technical School in Danielson, retiring in 1992. He had previously worked for the American Optical Company in Putnam, as a truck driver and in security, and at Cluet and Peabody. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving with the U S Army, a member of the Putnam VFW # 1523, the Putnam American Legion, and a former member of the Putnam Elks Lodge. He was a gifted athlete, he enjoyed sports, he played football, baseball and was a boxer. He played on many of Putnams baseball and softball teams. He was an a assistant boys baseball and girls softball coach at Ellis Tech in Danielson. He enjoyed horse racing and dog racing, and was an avid fisherman. He leaves in addition to his wife he leaves a niece Rita Guay of Springfield, MA and a nephew James Rewa of Putnam, a sister Lillian Gill of Longmeadow, MA, several additional nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Loretta Frechette, three brothers Romeo Joly, Ronald Jolly, and Jerry Russo. The Funeral will be Tuesday at 9:30 AM from the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in ST Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence Street, Putnam. Calling Hours Monday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Funeral Home. Burial in Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery, Turners Falls, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to ST Marys School, Athletic Committee, 23 Marshall Street, Putnam, CT 06260
