Obituary of Stanley E. Peterson
Stanley E Peterson Jr., Grampy, age 63, of Putnam, died peacefully at UMass Memorial Hospital, University Campus on Tues. April 12, 2005 from Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) surrounded by his family. At the time of his death, Stan was a 2004 survivor of an experimental stem cell transplant for Follicular Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
He was born in Putnam, CT June 24, 1941 to the late Stanley E. Peterson, Sr. and Mabel Farquhar Peterson. He was the husband of Ann Kathi [Shaw] Peterson who survives him along with their three sons and wives James and Jean Peterson of Dayville, David and Cynthia Peterson of Putnam and Andrew and Sue Peterson of Putnam. Stan leaves behind the apples of his eye, his grandchildren, Meaghan Ann, Ryan Andrew and Alyssa Lee. He is also survived by his sister and her husband, Marsha and Sidney Johnson of North Stonington, mother-in-law Frances Shaw, brother-in-law and his wife, James and Beverly Shaw, sisters-in-law and their husbands, Ruth Holly and Richard Preble, all of Putnam, and Robyn and Daniel Tracy of Dudley, MA along with many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family and life long friends Peter and Donna DeArmond, Cathy and Doug Taylor and Gordon Mauer.
Stan retired in 1997 as an equipment operator from the State of Connecticut, Dept of Transportation where he had worked for the majority of his lifetime. At the time of his death he was employed by special friends, Butch and Natalie Freeman of Freeman Sales and Service. He spent many hours caring for family, friends and neighbors as well as helping his wife with her many ministries to needy families in the Northeastern Connecticut area. Stan was an avid NASCAR racing fan, loved Country Western Music and enjoyed the outdoors mowing anywhere and everywhere his John Deere tractor would go. He also worked at many church events as part of the kitchen crew. Stan was a member of the Putnam United Methodist Church.
A Celebration of Stan's Life will be held at the Putnam United Methodist Church on Sunday, April 24 at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at the Putnam Heights Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, Relay-for-Life of Northeastern Connecticut and sent to Sue Peterson at Shaw's Inc, 160 Main St., Putnam, CT. They can also be made to the Day Kimball Hospital Oncology Dept., Attn: Development Office, 320 Pomfret Street, Putnam, CT 06260 or the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, Attn: Cindy Ryan, at UMass Memorial Hospital, University Campus, 55 Lake Ave. North, Worcester, MA 01655 in support of two wonderful, caring physicians, Dr. Philip Lowry and Dr. William Walsh and their staff.
