The following is a poem written by a dear friend in honor of my Dad.
The Resting of an Old Indian Warrior.
May the sun never blind your way, But stay behind you and light the trail ahead. May the rains never wash away your trail, But cleanse the sweat from your brow, And gently moisten the joints that yearn to rest. Lay upon your bed of furs, old man, In your warrior dress of fine deer hide.
The Great Spirit is coming for you, on his mighty steed, so gallant and white, Covered with jewels sparkling and bright. With flashes of lightning, and thunder so loud, He will come to you, from a pure white cloud. And the two of you, together, will wake up the sky, As you wake the dead buffalo, On hills both low and high. Peace be upon you, my brother at rest, Go ride and hunt, along with the best.
The rays of the sun are coming through the cloud, above, Lighting the grave of a warrior, With tenderness and love.
We of the Kiowa, say "Basta sa ki ye." Sleep well my brother.

I am very sorry for your recent loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Dear Cheryl,
I know how difficult this loss is. Your Dads obituary sounds similar to my Dads - hardworking family man - large family (I'm sure he was very proud of you),and handsome too!

Grandpa, I love you and miss you you'll always be in my thoughts, and always have a special place in my heart. I'll never forget spending almost every weekend with you and Nana, you would come home pick me up and spin me around. Sitting in your chair when you weren't there and getting out of it when you came home. I remember one time you came home I was in your chair and you told me that I could stay there, I felt special. These are the memories that I will always cherish. I love you grandpa.

Thinking of my Uncle Bob brings back a flood of pleasant childhood memories formed during the many summer weeks I spent with him, my Aunt Beadie and my cousins. He was a good man, a good father and a kind and patient uncle – he will be in my memories forever.

Grandpa was a man that I respected greatly and loved deeply and he will truly be missed. Each time we visit the house, someone will quickly fill his chair so we can see things from his view.As you sit there, close your eyes and picture his face, remember the scent of his after shave, and listen for his laugh...just when you didn't think he was paying attention to what you were saying....he was! These are lasting impressions I will always have.Grandpa, you will always be missed and we will always keep your memory alive.I know that we will all try to make you proud by being true to ourselves and true to our family.Thank you for being who you were.We love you!Tracy, Luis, Jaylan, Corina and Sophia.

I never knew Mr. Jackson personally, I know Fran, who used to hang out with us when we were kids. I always remember Mr. and Mrs. Jackson as being so hard working and raising that big family of really nice children.
I can still see Mr. Jackson walking home from work, carrying his lunch box under his arm. That is my lasting memory of him.
My condolences to Fran, Deb, and Bob-the family members I knew best.
