Obituary of Maurice Jean Fortin
August 29, 1933 - December 2, 2012
Brooklyn - Maurice J. Fortin was born to Anne and Edmond Fortin at home on the family dairy farm in Brooklyn Ct. He was the youngest of 4 children and lived his entire life on property that was once part of the family farm finally passing away in the home he had built there, and in just the manner he would have wanted.
Moe as he was known, was a gifted and accomplished carpenter and woodworker. He apprenticed in his youth building staircases. Moe enjoyed a challenging project, and was well known in the area for being a hard worker and a perfectionist. He worked for Keenan and Navarro Builders for approximately 40 years. Up until his retirement, he hardly ever missed a day of work and never forgot the lessons and values taught to him by his parents on the family farm. He spent his time in retirement maintaining his property and enjoying his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He could also be found with a few buddies solving the world's problems over coffee at George's Galley or even over a couple beers while sitting around the woodstove in Lem's garage.
Maurice is survived by his spouse of 33 years Rachel (Gaumond) Fortin, a sister Jacqueline Fagnant of Brooklyn, two daughters, Susan Davieu and Linda Claflin, and her spouse Terry of Topsham, Vermont and a son David Fortin and his spouse Joan of Woodstock. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A Graveside Service will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, December 7, 2012, in the Chapel of Holy Cross Cemetery, Maple Street, Danielson, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the St. James School Scholarship Fund, 12 Franklin Street, Danielson, CT 06239.
