Obituary of Rene L. Ferland, Jr.
Rene L. Ferland, Jr. age 42 of Lockport, NY, formerly of Babula Road, Thompson, CT, died unexpectedly Monday in a snowmobile accident in the Adirondacks, Canton, NY. He was the beloved husband of Marcia (Messier) Ferland, they were marriedNovember 11, 1983 in Thompson. He was born July 17, 1963 in Putnam, son of Rene and Helen (Zurowski) Ferland, Sr. of Putnam.
Rene was a concrete truck driver working for United Materials of Lancaster, NY. He also had worked for 17 years, at Superwinch in Putnam where he was a supervisor. He had made his home in Thompson moving to Lockport, NY in 1998. Rene was a member of the First Baptist Church of Webster, and the Lighthouse Baptist Church in N. Tonawanda, NY. He was a 1981 graduate of the Ellis Technical School in Danielson. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, son and brother. He enjoyed deer hunting, snowmobiling and the snow; he created deer shed antler lamps. Rene enjoyed winter and summer sports, an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan; he had a great love for nature and the outdoors.
He leaves in addition to his wife, mother and father, his children: Jonathan Ferland; Sarah Ferland both of Lockport, his sisters: Dianne Engle of Danielson; Donna Manzaro and her husband Frank of Dudley, MA; three nieces and a nephew; uncles, aunts and cousins.
The funeral service will be Saturday at 11:00 AM in the First Baptist Church of Webster, 33 East Main Street, Webster, MA. Calling hours Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT. Burial in West Thompson Cemetery, Thompson. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Cranberry Lake Fire & Rescue Department, PO Box 549, Cranberry Lake, NY 12927.
