Obituary of Charles C. Galinis

Charles C. Galinis, age 96, of Killingly Road, Pomfret Center, CT, died Sunday March 12, 2006, at the Villa Maria Convalescent Home in Plainfield, CT where he had made his home for the last 3 years. He was the husband of Phyllis (Ruszczak) Galinis. He was born October 1, 1909 in Waukegan, IL, son of Michael & Anna (Aliszreke) Galinis. He retired from the U S Navy after 22 years of service as a Chief Petty Officer, a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He later worked as a civil servant at the Great Lakes Naval Training Facility for 22 years, retiring in 1976. He was a communicant of ST Stephens Church in Quinebaug. He enjoyed working on small wood crafts. He will be remembered for his charm and sense of humor. He made his home in Waukegan for many years, moving to Pomfret six years ago. In addition to his wife of 13 years, he leaves his children: Barbara Petrovic of Gurnee, IL; Charles Galinis, Jr. of Waukegan, IL; Kathleen Laurino of Des Plaines, IL; a sister : Ann Paluska of Tucson, AZ, step children: Raymond M. Konarski of ST Charles, IL; Lawrence Konarski of Charleston, SC; Louise Ann Hodnett of Winter Garden, FL; Kenneth Konarski of Pomfret Center, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Victoria Galinis, June 20, 1988, and 2 sisters, 2 brothers and a grandson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10:00 am in ST Stephen's Church, Quinebaug, CT. Calling hour Wednesday from 8:30 to 9:30 am at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT. Burial in West Ridge Cemetery, Charlton, MA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Villa Maria Convalescent Home, 20 Babcock Ave, Plainfield, CT 06374.
