Obituary of George Myketyn, Jr.
George Myketyn, Jr., age 90, of Woodstock, formerly of Simsbury, died April 5, 2006 in Lanessa Health Care, WebsterMA.He was husband of the late Bertha (Darosz) Myketyn, she died February 4, 2006. Born February 10, 1916 in Simsbury, he was son of the late George Sr. and Eva (Yerma) Myketyn.
He grew up in Simsbury, where he met his wife Bertha while lifeguarding at a local park. They married and had a daughter. Soon after, he was off to the Army in WWII. Once he returned home, he began many adventures. He built his own home, started a concrete business and owned many trophy winning race horses. He then worked for the town of Simsbury until he retired. He and his wife moved to a house on Quassett, he served as president of the lake association for many years and was caretaker of the Quassett Lake Dam. He was a Life Member of the Woodstock American Legion. He enjoyed working in his gardens, which were beautiful. He leaves his daughter: June Palmer and her husband Ralph, granddaughter: Lisa Romanelli and her husband Roger, great- grandchildren: Danielle and Anthony, sister: Betty, sisters-in-law: Josie and Sophia, many nieces and nephews, and wonderful friends and neighbors. He was predeceased by his wife, Bertha, brothers Joe and John, and brother-in-law Ernie. His wit and wisdom will be missed by all the lives he touched. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 10, 2006, at 10:30 AM at Most Holy Trinity Church, 568 Pomfret Street, Pomfret. Burial with Military Honors in Quassett Cemetery.
