I remember Mr. Washburn as a very dedicated person to the youth of both Pomfret and Putnam, as a very good baseball coach. He always supported all teams no matter the out come of the game.

My favorite memory of Mr. Washburn was when he was sitting in his electric wheelchair and I was visiting with my 3 grandchildren and I asked him to race me! His wheelchair against my stroller! His face lit up and I knew he considered it. Then he smiled that warm, genuine smile that I adored most about him. I will miss our neighborly chats, as he was always sitting outside in the sun when I went for my walk.

Me and many others fondly still talk about Mr. Washburn & the Pomfret Ponies ball team. I can still see Mr. Washburn chomping on his cigar and teaching us how to "play ball" May he rest in peace.

I first met Al"Tiger" Washburn while working in the Oncology/Hematology Dept at Day Kimball Hospital. Al and I grew close over the years. he always had a smile and loved to share stories about his life. We had a thing, Al and I where we would growl like a tiger towards one another as he waited for the Doctor. Al is responsible for bringing many a smile to my face and I will miss him greatly! Love you Al, GRRRRRRR!!!!!

There was so much to love about Al but when I think of him, what stands out in my mind is that he knew how to love. He loved his wife, his family, and his life. He would greet each of "his girls" as though we were the most important and wonderful people in the world. We will miss this precious man. Jane (nurse DKH)
