Obituary of Preston T. Roberts

Preston T. Roberts, 83, of Ravenelle Road, North Grosvenordale, died Saturday at Matulaitis Nursing home in Putnam. He was the husband of Mary (Cuff) Roberts of Woodstock. Born December 13, 1922 in Wolfeboro, NH, son of the late Charles E. and Ella Frances (Rowe) Roberts. He was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Woodstock for many years and was also a member of the Woodstock Inland Wetlands Commission and the Board of Directors of the Woodstock Fair. A graduate of the University of New Hampshire in 1948, he also received a Masters Degree in Agriculture Economics from Cornell University in 1963. He worked as a farm extension agent in Jefferson County, NY until 1954 when he came to Connecticut, where he continued as extension agent working with the University of Connecticut, until he retired in 1985. He always felt that he helped many farm families make the transition of the family farm from one generation to the next, keeping the farm in the family. He was a veteran of WWII, serving with the US Army in the Philippines. In addition to his wife Mary he leaves a son Richard and his wife Melissa of Wethersfield, a brother Irving Roberts and his wife Jean of Alton, NH, his twin sister, Mary Goodrich of Alton, NH and Ruth Schenck and her husband William of Keene, NH, a sister-in-law Suzanne Roberts of Belmont, NH, two grandchildren, Amelia and Thomas, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son David Roberts in 1981, a brother Leslie Roberts in 2001 and a brother-in-law, Otis Goodrich in 2001. A Memorial Service will be Saturday at 2:00 pm at the First Congregational Church of Woodstock, Route 169, Woodstock.
