Obituary of Marge Kilburn Eaton
Marge Kilburn Eaton, of Pomfret, CT passed away peacefully on December 31, 2012 after a short hospice stay at Matulaitis Nursing Home. She was born August 25, 1922 in Willimantic, CT, daughter of the late Wilbur W. and Corine (Bernier) Kilburn. Marge married her high school sweetheart, Harry E. Eaton, MD, on June 20, 1942. They were married for 46 years, and lived in Pomfret since 1952.
Marge was predeceased by her parents, three brothers: Wilbur D. Kilburn; John Donald Kilburn; Alvin N. Kilburn; four sisters: Alice T. Abel; Lois A Jenkins; Rita C. Eldredge; Marion T. Conboy. She is survived by four children: son Harry E. Eaton and his wife Theresa of Woodstock; son Marshall L. Eaton and his wife Ginny of Pomfret; son J. Wesley Eaton and his wife Gloria of Woodstock, daughter Marilyn Eaton and her lifetime partner Richard Keeler of Pomfret. She is survived by five grandchildren: Thomas; David; Lisa Ann Eaton; Julie Bruning; and Brian Paquin and 10 1/2 great grandchildren.
After raising four children, she went back to school and graduated from Eastern Connecticut State College in 1971. She taught at Killingly Central School primarily as a first grade teacher from 1971 to 1992. She was a Corporator of Day Kimball Hospital for many years. She was a member of the Teachers' Association Alpha Delta Kappa. She enjoyed going to the Rhode Island beach with her family in the summer, creating theorem stencil paintings, knitting, writing children's short stories, reading and listening to novels, and calligraphy. Most of all she enjoyed the company of her family.
Calling hours will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT.
