Obituary of Shirley I. Ayers

Shirley I. Ayers, age 82 of Deerfield Road, Pomfret, formerly of Hampton Road, Abington, died unexpectedly Monday at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. She was the wife of the late James L. Ayers, he died in 2003. She was born in Killingly, December 3, 1923, daughter of the late Frank B. and Marion (Wade) Nason. She was a member of the Abington Congregational Church and worked with the Womens Guild for several years. Shirley will be remembered for her kindness to others, she had a great love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid reader and scrabble player. Shirley enjoyed bowling, golfing, knitting and crocheting. She leaves three sons: James R. Ayers (Chip/Jimmy) and his fiance, Janet Barnes, of Moosup; Barry Ayers and his wife, Debra (White), of Pomfret; Glenn Ayers of Abington; three daughters: Lana Cohen and her husband, Michael of Pomfret; Cheryl Grist and her companion, Arthur Benway, Jr. of Pomfret; Donna LaPointe and her husband, Stephen of Pomfret; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren; sister, Mildred Zipkin of Manchester, she was predeceased by her siblings, Kenneth, Norman, Alma Alvord, Alice Fasnacht, Dorothy Carlow. A memorial service will be held on October 21st at 11:00 am at the Abington Congregational Church, Route 97, Abington, CT. Burial in Abington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Abington Congregational Church or the Pomfret Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 67, Pomfret Center, CT.
