Obituary of Doris Johnson

Doris Johnson, age 93, of Deerfield Road, Pomfret, formerly of Eastford, died October 12, 2006 at the Village Manor in Plainfield. She was the wife of the late Arthur A. Johnson, he died in 1990. Born November 5, 1912 in East Montpelier, VT, daughter of the late Chester and Laura (Kimball) Gould.

She moved to Connecticut in the 1930s and was employed at the Pioneer Parachute and Pratt and Whitney. She had made her home in Eastford for 27 years, moving to Seeley Brown Village six years ago, she also lived in Hebron and Storrs. She was employed by Travelers Insurance Company for 17 years retiring in 1974. She was Member of the Eastford Congregational Church, the DAR and a long standing member of the Eastford Senior Citizens. She enjoyed painting, and entered many paintings in the Woodstock Fair over the years. Her many interests were plants, flowers, knitting and crocheting.

She leaves several nieces and nephews including, Sandra Hoffman of Westerly, RI; Laura Roy of East Harford; David Witham of Manchester; Charles Witham of Florid: Joan Baldwin of Gold Hill, OR.; Chester Gould of Arkansas; Lucinda Smith of Hardwick, VT; a sister-in-law; Edith Baldwin of Calais, VT.

A Memorial Service will be Thursday at 2:00 PM at the Congregational Church of Eastford, Church Street, Eastford, CT. Burial in Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to Hospice of Northeast CT, PO Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260. Arrangements by Smith & Walker Funeral Home, Putnam.
