Obituary of Estelle M. Willis
Estelle M. Willis, age 94, born January 20, 1912, a life long resident of Putnam died suddenly at Day Kimball Hospital on November 4, 2006. She was the beloved wife of the late George F. Willis and the daughter of the late Albert and Victoria (Dumas) Morin of Putnam.
Mrs. Willis attended Putnam schools and had a great interest in antique items and local history. She was a member of the Aspinock Historical Society and enjoyed the arts, flower gardening and caring for her home and family. In the past she was a volunteer at the Day Kimball Hospital. Following WWII she enjoyed helping her sister Simone, and her husband Lucien, at the popular Brookside Dairy on Route 44, which was located where the new Wal-Mart store now stands. Mrs. Willis was a friend of Gertrude Warner, local author of the Box Car series of childrens books and, more recently made many new friends during her short stay at the Pierce Memorial Baptist Home in Brooklyn, Connecticut.
She will be sadly missed by her two sons, Earl Russell Willis and wife Charlotte, of Sterling Heights, Michigan and George Sherwood Willis and wife Gail, of Deep River, Connecticut, her sister Gertrude Charron of Putnam, six grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and her much loved house cat, Kitty.
Mrs. Willis was predeceased by her brother Norman Morin of East Hartford, and her sisters Laura Gravel and Simone Harpin, both of Putnam.
Private services were held at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home and burial was at the Grove Street Cemetery in Putnam.
