Obituary of Edward Elliott Ellsworth, Sr.
Edward Elliott Ellsworth Sr. of Woodstock, formerly of Pomfret, died November.22, 2006 at the loving home of Elias and Deborah Farquhar. Edward was the son of the late Howard S. and Thera (Howe) Ellsworth. He was born in Willimantic, CT. August 27, 1918.
He attended grade schools in Hampton and Pomfret, graduating from Putnam High School, class of 1937. He graduated from the Vermont Technical College in Randolph, VT. As a young man he was a 4H leader in Pomfret and later served on several agricultural boards and committees in the area. He was a farm manager in RI and in Goshen, NY. before owning his own farms in Brooklyn, Hampton and then 1953 in Pomfret until his retirement in 1985. Edward participated in the Bible Study and served as Deacon in the Abington Congregational Church. He was an avid member of the dart ball team, winning a number of the league Doubles Titles and The Charles Nutter Award. He was a dedicated sponsor of the Tri-State Kart Club. Edward was married to Katherine Postemski of Hampton in 1941 until her death in 1982. He then married Charlotte Amidon Farquhar in 1983 until her death in 2004. Charlotte and Ed enjoyed traveling throughout the USA and Canada in their motor home. Edward's love of the outdoors included fishing, hunting and golf.
Ed leaves three sons, Edward E. Jr. of Gardendale, AL., Gerald F. and wife June of Westmoreland, NH. James K. and wife Debi of Pomfret; step-son, Elias G. Farquhar Jr. and wife Deborah of Woodstock., with whom he lived with the past six years receiving loving care. Ed leaves three brothers Harold of Tolland; Howard of Albuquerque, NM; Robert of Pomfret; a sister Marion Scott of Pomfret. One brother Walter predeceased him in May 2006. He leaves nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are Friday December 1st from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam. The Funeral Service will be Saturday at 10:00 AM at the Abington Congregational Church, Hampton Rd, Abington. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edward's memory may be made to the Abington Congregational Church, PO Box 289, Pomfret Center, CT, 06259.
