Additional Obit Info
Joan B. Chapdelaine, 67, of Quinebaug, died December 7th at home with her children by her side, after a very courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born May 30, 1939, daughter of the late John and Dorothy (Williams) Bennett. Born and raised in Putnam, she moved to Quinebaug with her late husband, Raymond Chapdelaine, and her children in 1973, where she made a loving home for her family.
Joan attended the Putnam Schools and in her later years attended various computer classes at QVCC. She worked at the American Optical, both in Putnam and Southbridge, for many years. After leaving the American Optical she began work as a business manager for the Commerce Associates in Worcester, where she has been employed for the past 7 years. Joan was very proud of her home and enjoyed decorating it and working in the yard and in her gardens and spending rime with her kitty, Ali. She loved the water and spent many happy days boating and relaxing at her cottage on Quaddick Lake. She loved to shop and spent many an afternoon at the mall. She also enjoyed traveling. She traveled to Florida and took her dream vacation to Hawaii in 2004. Joan loved getting her family together and made everyone feel welcome and loved in her home.
She leaves behind and is greatly missed by her son Dale Chapdelaine, his wife Lori, and their children Tara and Alyssa; her daughter Dawn Goodno, her husband Glenn, and their family; her beloved brother John Bennett Jr., his wife Sue and their family; her cousin and best friend Shirley Rapose; her uncle Raymond Williams and his wife Elenore.

I have very fond memories of going to the Woodsock Fair with your mother, grandmother and you!
She was always so nice to me and made me laugh. Simply, you both have a way of making people feel welcome.
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

I am sorry for the loss of your Mother. I was just in her building on Dec. 6th and was thinking of visiting with her but was uanble to. I didn't know she was sick. What a shock to see her obituary in the paper. She was a wonderful person. I worked with her about five years ago. She was so put together. We had a lot of laughs together. Like the time she mentioned that she liked a blouse that I had on so I decided to buy her the same one for Christmas. A few weeks later we showed up at work dressed exactly alike with a black skirt, black blazer and black shoes and of course, the "blouse". We told everyone we were twins. I don't think anybody belived us as there was a 20 year difference between us. We got along wonderfully.
I was happy to read that she finally went to Hawaii. I hope she was able to make the trip to Branson, MI too. Your mother was a caring and giving person. She always spoke about her children and grandchldren, Tara and Alyssa. She will surely be missed by those who really knew her. Take care of yourselves and again I am very sorry to hear about her passing.

My last 2 years at American Optical Joan and I walked everyday at lunch time. She never would let me miss a day even when I didn't feel like it. We would talk about families, recipes, and how much she liked the Patriots. When I decided to take a computer class after American Optical closed, I walked into the classroom and there was Joan. We kept in touch over the last few years through e-mails. I will miss Joan and her e-mails.
