Obituary of William J. Amato, Sr.
William J. Amato, Sr., age 89, of Woodstock, CT died Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at the Westview Nursing Center in Dayville. Husband of the late Ruth (Haynes) Amato, she died in 2001. Born in Norwalk, OH, August 4, 1917, son of Frank and Frances (Sansone) Amato.
He was a Sales Representative for Pacific Intermountain Express for 45 years, retiring in 1981, in retirement he was also a Sales Representative for 20 years for the Shopper-Turnpike Corporation. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Army. He was a member of the Transportation Club of RI, a former member of the Woodstock Lions Club and the Woodstock Volunteer Fire Department. He was active for many years with Boy Scout Troop 27, Woodstock.
He leaves three sons: William Amato, Jr. of Webster, MA; Paul (Nancy) Amato of Milford, NH; Richard Amato of Denver, CO; two daughters: Carol (Edward) Conlin of Woodstock, Kathleen (Joseph) DiPilato of Putnam, 11 grandchildren: John, Jennie, Kelly (Dan) Smith, Heidi, Kristine, Sara, Holly, Joshua, Heather, Amy, Jonathan, two great grandchildren, a niece: Susan Erkkila of Pembroke, NH, a nephew: Thomas Callahan of Sunapee, NH; he was predeceased by two brothers: Harry Amato; Philip Amato.
A Memorial Service will be Saturday, January 27th at 2:00 pm in the First Congregational Church of Woodstock, Route 169, Woodstock. No Calling Hours.
