Obituary of Alexine Lillian Rothwell Phaneuf
Alexine Lillian Rothwell Phaneuf, 97, of Fairmount Street, Putnam, died at the Lanessa Nursing Home in Webster, January 30, 2007. She was the wife of the late Edgar T. Phaneuf; he died June 11, 1985. She was born December 3, 1909 in New London, daughter of the late Charles E. and Alice May (Adams) Rothwell.
She worked for over 30 years at Belding in Putnam, as an assistant personnel manager and treasurer of the Belcort Credit Union. Alexine was a prominent Putnam Alumni for 70 years. She was a communicant of ST Mary Church of the Visitation and sang in the choir. She also enjoyed singing with the Happy Singers. Her extensive work with the American Red Cross led to a commendation from the President of the United States. Her interests included bowling, knitting, reading and spending time with her family.
She leaves her children Joan Almquist of Putnam; Barbara Gardner and her husband Paul of Woodstock; Peter Phaneuf of Dayville; 18 grandchildren ; 33 great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter; she was predeceased by a daughter Allison Phaneuf in 1948; siblings; Tom, Charles and Grace.
The funeral will be Friday February 2nd at 10:30 from the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam followed by an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in ST Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence Street, Putnam. Calling Hour will be Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial in ST Mary Cemetery, Putnam.
