Obituary of Gerhard W. Otten
Gerhard W. Otten, 72, of Fox Road, Putnam, died Monday, February 12, 2007 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, MA. Husband of Christine (McCorry) Otten, they were married in 1967. He was born August 2, 1934 in White Plains, NY, son of the late William and Emma (Postera) Otten.
A graduate of William and Mary College in Williamsburg, VA, receiving a BA in Business, Class 1956. He has made his home in Putnam for the last 23 years formerly of Newtown. He was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in North Grosvenordale. He was a member of the United States Power Squadron - Norwich Division for 30 years, was a Past Commander, Educational Officer and a member of the Bridge. His hobbies included boating, fishing, hunting, skiing, traveling to Germany and farming. He was a claims manager for Electric Mutual Insurance in Lynn, MA for 10 years and General Adjustment Bureau, Hamden, CT for 16 years.
In addition to his wife Christine, he leaves his children, Erich Otten of Stafford, Heidi Butler of Putnam, Kristen Otten of Putnam, a sister Ingrid McCauley of Newtown, a grandson, Colby Butler.
Funeral Service will be Saturday February 17th at 11:00 AM at the Emanuel Lutheran Church, 8 Main Street North Grosvenordale. Burial will be in Darien. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the charity of one's choice. Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam is in charge of arrangements.
