Obituary of Reverend Leroy Schrump
Reverend Leroy Schrump, 81, of Cornfield Point, Woodstock, formerly of Pomfret, died Monday morning at home. He was the beloved husband of Myra (Wengolin) Schrump; they were married February 10, 1951 in New Haven. He was born February 13, 1926 in New Haven, son of the late Walter C. and Florence (Meredith) Schrump.
He was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Army serving as a Sergeant with the 262nd infantry regiment. He served in France, Germany and Austria. He was honorably discharged June 13, 1946. He had made his home in Pomfret since 1963, moving to Woodstock two years ago. Rev. Schrump was an ordained Minister; he served the Abington Congregational Church from 1963 to 1972. He also was an auditor for the State of Connecticut for 18 years, he retired in 1992. He was a life member of the Pomfret Volunteer Fire Department, an active member of the Pomfret Senior Citizens and served as treasurer for 10 years and a member of Abington Congregational Church, serving as Moderator, Trustee and was a member of the Church choir. Leroy was a Director on the Abington Library Board for many years and a member of the Killingly Historical Society. He was a Mason with the Adelphi Momauguin Lodge #63 A.F. & A.M. He enjoyed genealogy, and traveling with his wife Myra.
He leaves in addition to his wife Myra, his six children, Walter Schrump of MA, Nancy Baker and her husband Edmund of the United Kingdom, Dr. David Schrump and his wife Brenda of MD, Donald Schrump and his wife Valerie of CT, Susan Brown of CT, Erik Schrump of CA, nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, predeceased by a brother Franklin and a great grandson.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, with a funeral service at 11:00 AM Saturday in the Abington Congregational Church, Route 97, Pomfret, CT. Burial will follow in Abington Cemetery with military honors.
