Obituary of Nancy Edwards Cox
Nancy Edwards Cox, 92, of Brooklyn, CT, died peacefully on Thursday, January 3, 2013. She was born March 10, 1920 in Southbridge, MA, daughter of the late Wardwell Marcy and Marian (Cook) Edwards.
She spent her youth in Southbridge, attending Mary E. Wells HS and then Stoneleigh Burnham School and Colby Sawyer College in NH. After her marriage to William Cox, they made their home in Brimfield, MA for 33 years. Following her retirement she relocated to Richmond, NH, where she did volunteer work in the Keene hospital, the hospice organization and especially the Humane Society rescue facility. In 2000 she returned to Connecticut, and moved to Creamery Brook Retirement Village in 2004.
She was an avid equestrian all her life, riding even into her sixties. Nancy had a great love of horses and dogs. For several years she and her family raised English Setters. She was a great outdoors person, enjoyed deer and bird hunting and all sports, both as a participant and a spectator. Nancy also loved reading and knitting.
She leaves her children: Ellen Holley of Woodstock, and Wardwell Burtis Cox and wife Shirley of Brimfield, MA. Three grandchildren: Wardwell (Burt) Cox and wife Johnna of Brookfield, MA; Angela Paris Gisleson of Putnam; and Jaime Paris Boisvert and husband Jean-Louis of Woodstock. Six great grandchildren: Patrick, Aidan, Elise, Carleigh, Ella and Colbie, and two nephews.
A memorial service will be Saturday, January 19th at 2:00 PM in the East Woodstock Congregational Church, 220 Woodstock Road, East Woodstock. Burial will be at a later date in Oakridge Cemetery, Southbridge.
