Obituary of Joseph F. Kania, Sr.
Joseph F. Kania, Sr. 83, formerly of Maple Court, Danielson, died Monday, May 21, 2007 at the Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. He was born May 5, 1924 in Dayville, CT, son of Stanley and Rosalee (Baulfafka) Kania.
He worked for thirty eight years at the Rogers Corporation as a machine operator, he retired in 1986. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Navy Seabees; he was a POW and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal; Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal; Philippine Liberation Medal and the American Theatre Ribbon. He received an Honorable Discharge January 8, 1946. Joseph made his home in Dayville for many years, he enjoyed the outdoors and the beauty of nature, and especially loved his trips to northern New England. He was a carpenter, he enjoyed building and remodeling his home and helping his children with their homes. He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He leaves his children: Gloria Fabian and her husband Al of Jacksonville, FL; Joseph Kania, Jr, of Heidelberg, Germany; Maryann Lalumiere and her husband Richard of Clinton, with whom he made his home; Pamela Dion and her husband David of Webster, MA; James Kania of Danielson; grandchildren: Renee; Aaron; Mark; Sarah; Katherine; Jeffrey and Jonathan; six great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; he was predeceased by his former wife: Rita Kania, April 22, 2007; a brother: Walter Kania; a sister: Stella Kania; his companion for many years: Dorothy Robbins.
A Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, May 25, 2007 at 10:00 AM in ST Joseph Church, 350 Hartford Pike, Dayville, followed by Burial with Military Honors in Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Disabled American Veterans, 5 Cold Spring Road, Suite 315, Rocky Hill, CT 06067-3102.
