Bet Z Smith posted a condolence

We were saddened to learn that Mr. Fiander passed away. He sold us the land for a private wildlife refuge we established across from his house. He was pleased that it was being conserved, and will become part of Roseland Park when we cross that rainbow bridge.
Mr. Fiander drove his tractor over several times to see what we were working on. He was interested in the wildlife we encountered there (bobcats, beaver, barred owls, etc.) and said the resident hawk used to follow him when he mowed the meadow, probably because the cutting scared up rodents.
I chatted with him recently when he was picking up his mail. Such a character! Such stories! About playing milusic and singing, his passion for vehicles, his travels. He led an interesting life and was a very nice man. But he said the dialysis was exhausting. Still, he lived at least 3.5 years longer than folks thought he would. We are glad to have known him, and we are grateful to now be the caretakers of his land.
