I just learned of Dave's passing and wanted to express my condolences and share some memories of this fine man and a picture I took of Dave and daughter Linda in 1965.
I worked in the Rogers lab with Dave in the 1960s and 70s. Dave was one of the most charming and witty people I've known. I owe my love of classical music to Dave's chatting about it during our coffee breaks. Dave was also one of the nicest persons in the lab; during my 10 years in the lab, I never heard Dave say anything negative about anyone.
It was through Dave and my mutual interest in local history that I found out about "Folklore and Firesides in Pomfret, Hampton and Vicinity," by Susan Griggs. I believe he said she was his aunt, and he obtained a copy I was able to buy.
Dave loved talking about his boat, and when I said thatI'd never been on a boat he generously offered me a trip to Mystic Seaport. That's how the photo came about. I scanned it at a high enough resolution that you could print an 8x12.

I have many fond memories of David Sr. -- they includes great times of house parties at Dave & Deb's home, casual & always interesting conversations over dinner or cocktails, stopping to chat with him when he would come visit me in the town hall, the years of selfless service he gave to the Town of Pomfret, the Abington Congregational Church, and the Abington Social Library. I learned so many valuable pieces of information about Pomfret and Eastern Connecticut from him. He always had a warm smile & kind words and I will miss his wisdom.

Mr. Howe Sr. was a very interesting man. I loved listening to his history talks at the Pomfret Senior Center and talking with him about genealogy and history in the community. Condolences go out to the family of this remarkable man.
