Our friend Pete was taken away from us too soon but all of us who knew him are better and happier because of him. He battled hard and I am thankful the pain is it gone. My condolences and love go out to his wife Stacy, his kids, mom-Donna, brother-Hank and Teresa and their kids and all the friendships he had in Iowa, Conn and anywhere else. We all got to know and experience a special friend.
Pete was just an all around great person, that was outgoing, fun, caring and loyal. There are so many great memories growing up with Pete - walking and going to school, sleep overs, watching movies, playing sports, school functions and Not school functions, parties, concerts and just hanging out. We grew up on Colony Drive before we both joined the Army. After Basic Training, we both were assigned to Ft. Lee, Va. together for our Military job training and that was a blessing we had each other for support and our friendship made it easier being away from home. Pete got stationed in Germany and I went to Ft. Hood,Tx. We stayed in touch with letters and phone calls once in awhile. When Pete left the Army and started a family in Conn.it separated us but there was still phone calls and later texts. So when he would come back to Iowa, everybody would get together so we can hang out with Pete... always a fun time.
One of the best memories I have of Pete and to sum up our friendship was in the Army. My Battalion got assigned to REFORGER ( military war training) that was in Germany. I think I wrote him and said I would be in Germany this amount of time -no clue where? I told him maybe Northern Germany.(Remember NO cell phone...NO texting). I was there for 7 weeks and the last couple of days before we deploy back to the states - Thousands of soldiers stay in tent cities waiting to go, all you get is a cot to sleep on. The 2nd to last day I was coming back from the Mess Hall and someone is sitting on my cot….It was Pete…. We hugged and laughed. Somehow he got a duty to go to the holding area and persevered to find me to the exact spot...sitting on my cot. That is how I will always remember our good friend laughing, fun, caring and loyal. When my day comes and walk into our better place - I hope my friend is sitting on my cot…Love you brother and will always Cherish the times we had together.
Your friend forever - Schlick

I will remember sidelines at soccer games but the one memory to go down in the books will be my tire falling off of my truck just before you’re home. I was thankful I knew you guys and could roll into the yard. You and Stacy were very busy with wedding preparations but you stopped everything to make my truck safe. Almost too safe says all the people who had to take the Lugnuts off since then! You were kind helpful and an all-around amazing guy❤️

Donna and Family, My sincere condolences to all of you. Pete was so young and such a bright light in the center of your family. I remember him as a fun-loving kid enjoying the summers outdoors at Thunderbird Lake in Cherokee Village. I hope all your fond memories can provide some comfort at this time. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Sincerely, Connie Conners
