Obituary of John F. Currier

John "Jack" F. Currier, Jr., 94, of Little Pond Road, Woodstock, died Saturday morning, September 29, 2007 at home with his two daughters at his side. He was the husband of Leila (Chenette) Currier, she died in 1988. He was born April 29, 1913 in Providence, RI, son of the late John and Hazel (Dickey) Currier, Sr. He was employed for 37 years at American Optical in Southbridge, MA working as a grinder and glass polisher, he retired in 1978. He had received several monetary awards for his patents he submitted to the company. In the early 1950's he operated an Oil Burner Service Company in Putnam. He had made is home in Woodstock for over forty years. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed traveling and always had time for his family and enjoyed spending time with his daughters, grandchildren and his extended family. Jack will be remembered for his generosity and kindness. He leaves his two daughters: Eleanor Cloud of Woodstock; Nancy Johnson Bow of Danielson; his siblings: Hazel Sheldon of Woodstock; Charles Currier, Frank Currier; Pauline Fisher all of Pomfret; Thomas Currier of Putnam; Robert Currier of Port ST Lucie, FL, his grandchildren: James Wade of Richmond, CA; Gregory Wade of Danielson; Jeffrey Johnson and his wife Judy of Danielson; Lynn James and her husband Dan of Brooklyn; his great grandchildren: Jena, Kevin, Matthew, Craig; his step-grandchildren: Christine Cloud New Britain; Cindy Thompson of LePanto, AR; Brian Cloud of Semmes, AL. He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters: Earl Currier; Walter Currier; Gertrude Erskine, Marceline Crandall. Jack was also predeceased by his companion of thirteen years; Edith Shippee, and leaves her daughters: Carol Molnar, June Carbone, Linda Short, Lorna Shelto; Norma Quirk and Dale Iverson died June 2007. Calling Hours Tuesday, October 2, 2007 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at 11:00 AM in Christ Church, 521 Pomfret Street, Pomfret, CT. Burial at a later date in Abington Cemetery, Pomfret. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Hospice of Northeast Connecticut, PO Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260.
