Obituary of Rev. George Emmitt
NAZARENE PASTOR
Rev. George Emmitt, 90, passed away Friday at Matulaitis Nursing Center in Putnam. Born in Birmingham, England on Jan.18, 1917, the son of the late George & Emily (Saunders) Emmitt, he is survived by his widow Gertrude Lewis Emmitt to whom he was married for 64 yrs. He is survived by his son Dr. George David Emmitt (and wife Karen) of Charlottesville, VA and daughter Judith DiMaria (and husband Bruce) of Pomfret Ctr, CT, sister Bertha McGray of So. Weymouth, MA, 5 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Rev. Emmitt pastored for 35 years in the Church of the Nazarene. His last appointment was in Manchester, CT from 1977 to 1983, after which he retired to Dayville, where he continued to minister by volunteering in nursing home religious services throughout the area.
Viewing hours will be on Monday, 2:30 PM preceding the funeral service at 3 PM at the Danielson Church of the Nazarene, 440 Westcott Road, Danielson. A graveside service will be held the following day at 11:30 AM at the Northford Cemetery in Northford, CT.
