Richard L. Ratelle, 73, of Danielson, CT passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, December 12, 2020. Just as he dealt with all experiences in life, Richard managed his illness with strength and dignity. On his final day, he was surrounded by his wife of 41 years and his children all of whom loved him more than anything in the world. Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many.

He was an affable, generous, humorous, and hard-working family man who made an impression on everyone he encountered - always making time to offer a smile and a kind word for all. He was deeply proud of his family and was the first to share the news of their latest accomplishments. He was also proud of his home of 41 years and enjoyed yard work, home improvement projects, and decorating for the holidays with his wife. An avid sports fan, he was a life-long supporter of the Boston Red Sox, NY Giants, Boston Celtics, and the UCONN Huskies. In his earlier days, he enjoyed playing softball, pool, and coaching Killingly Midget Football. “Pépé” was the heartbeat of the family and could always be found working the grill at every family function. In his retirement, he and his wife spent their time refinishing antique furniture, building new furniture and other creations which now adorn the homes of countless people. Professionally, Richard spent 35 years at Electric Boat, where he was highly respected by all. He worked his way up to Assistant Superintendent of the Pipe Shop Department 243 and retired at the age of 62 to spend more time with his family. He leaves behind a tremendous legacy and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Richard was born in Woonsocket, RI and was the son of the late Delores J. (Racette) and Sylvio J. Ratelle. He is predeceased by his brother Richard “Joe” Ratelle, his sister Terry Meunier, grandson Taylor Williams, and his mother-in-law Gloria Sarault. He leaves behind his beloved wife Donna L. Ratelle; his daughters Barbara Healey and husband Kenneth, Debra Morrison and husband Kevin, Nichole Williams and partner Dr. Terry Baksh; sons Douglas Flannery, Ryan R. Ratelle and husband Sam; grandchildren Shane, Shawn, Alissa, Hannah, and Troy; siblings Wes Ratelle, Jessie Ianetti, Linda Bowen; his doting dog Emmy; and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
