Obituary of Robert H. Murray
Robert H. "Old Dad" Murray, 75 of Harrisville Road, Woodstock, died Sunday at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Vivienne (Levesque) Murray, they were married September 8, 1956. Born October 16, 1932 in Putnam, son of the late Harold C. and Claire (Daigle) Murray.
He had made his home in Woodstock most of his life, a communicant of Most Holy Trinity Church in Pomfret. He was a graduate of the former Putnam Trade School. A veteran of the Korean War serving with the US Navy aboard the USS Princeton, he was honorably discharged in 1953. He was a member of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen, Local 1, Wallingford, CT. He worked for Peaslee Construction and most recently Dexter Construction in Danielson. He was a member of the Putnam VFW and the Putnam American Legion. He enjoyed deep sea fishing and was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed all the drivers in the Nextel Cup. He will be deeply missed by all his friends at the Chickering Tavern.
He leaves his wife of 50 years Vivienne, a son Robert H. Murray and his wife Darlene of Putnam; a daughter Kathleen Ward of Lakewood, WV; a brother Phillip Murray of Brooklyn; two sisters Madelyn Deitert of Pomfret; Joanne Cassettari of Putnam, grandchildren: Michael, Samantha, Alma, Mallory, Patrick, Paige, Kimberly, Michelle, Alan. His great grandchildren Alexis, Allyssa, Kolby, Kaylee. He was predeceased by a son Edward Murray and his stepfather Pete Jalbert.
The Funeral will be Thursday at 9:00 AM from the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Most Holy Trinity Church. 568 Pomfret Street, Pomfret. Calling Hours Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Funeral Home. Burial with Military Honors in ST Mary Cemetery, Putnam.
