Obituary of Alice H. Desaulnier

Alice Hall Desaulnier, 97 of Brooklyn, CT, Formerly of Woodstock, CT, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 13, 2021. Alice was born on May 15, 1923 in New London, CT. As a young child her family moved to Windham County. Alice attended Woodstock Academy and graduated from Putnam High School. On February 9, 1946 she married William J. Desaulnier, Jr. in Putnam, CT. She and Bill celebrated 46 years of marriage and raised five children. During the WWII years she worked for the Department of Agriculture as a secretary. After raising her family she worked many years at W.T. Grant Co., and later was manager of the Bookstore at Annhurst College in Woodstock. Alice was very active in the VFW and was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary serving as Treasurer for many years and then as a State Representative. Alice and Bill enjoyed square dancing, camping and spending time with family and friends. She loved playing Scrabble and spent many happy hours playing while a resident of Seeley Brown. Alice had a wonderful sense of humor and will be dearly missed. She leaves behind her children Ron Desaulnier of Thompson, CT, Beverly Spink and husband Paul of Brooklyn, CT, Dennis Desaulnier and wife Pam of Eastford, CT, Joanne Woodfall and husband Gordon of Amesbury, MA and David Desaulnier and wife Pati of Putnam, CT. Her 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband and grandson Mark Desaulnier. The family would like to thank the staff at Pierce Memorial Baptist Home for their compassionate care. The care Alice received during her years there was exceptional. In lieu of flowers donation may be made in her memory to the Recreation Department at Pierce Memorial Baptist Home, 44 Canterbury Road, Brooklyn, CT 06234. Calling hours will be Saturday, March 20, 2021 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT.
