Obituary of Phyllis C. Malarkey

Phyllis C. Malarkey, 89, of Brooklyn, CT passed away May 8, 2021 at Westview Healthcare in Dayville, CT. Born July 1, 1931 in Petrolia, PA, the daughter of the late George and Laura (McKinney) Colbert. She was the beloved wife of the late Eugene F. Malarkey. They were married October 14, 1950 in St. Mary Church Parker, PA.

Phyllis devoted herself to her family and moved to Brooklyn, CT in 1958. She was a communicant of St. James Church in Danielson, CT. Phyllis started working at Friendly Bowl in 1962 as a Bookkeeper and Desk Attendant. She later purchased the business in 1969 and owned and operated it until 1997. She enjoyed golfing and was a member at Quinnatisset Golf Club for 15 years. Phyllis also enjoyed square dancing and embroidery. She was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts.

She leaves her children Michael Malarkey and his wife Kim, George Malarkey, John Paul “Monk” Malarkey, Robert Malarkey and Laura Morse and her husband Wilfred Morse, Jr.: her 9 grandchildren and her 8 great grandchildren; her sister Joan Slaughenhaupt and her husband Shirl. Also, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Viola Boltz, Marion Slaughenhaupt and her grandson Brandon Malarkey.

Calling Hours will be Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 9:00 AM at Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM at St. James Church, 12 Franklin Street, Danielson, CT 06239. Burial will follow at All Hollows Cemetery, Moosup, CT.
