Obituary of Omer A. Sponcey

Omer A. Sponcey, Retired USAF, passed away June 16, 2021 at home. The son of Alferie and Rena (Morin) Sponcey. He is survived by his wife Beatrice, his sister Theresa Desmarais and daughters MaryAnn Gilbert, Patricia Williams and Nancy Shaffer. His step children William Pierce, Brenda Stone, Elizabeth Fuller and Laura Auger. He was predeceased by Suzanne Kilborn. He leaves behind many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a volunteer fireman and dispatch operator at the Putnam Fire Station and also worked for the Town of Thompson. He was a member of the Air Force Sergeant’s Assoc., The VFW and the Putnam Fish and Game Club. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed many years of fishing and hunting, hiking and camping.

A calling hour will be Thursday, June 24, 2021 from 5:00 to 6:00 PM with a Funeral Service at 6:00 PM at Smith and Walker Funeral Home 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT. Burial will be Tuesday, June 29 at 1:00 PM in the State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Ln, Middletown, CT.
