I was sorry to learn about Fred.
Fred was a neighbor in the early 1950's when he lived on Fox Hill Road in Pomfret. He and I hunted together, along with his brothers Ed and Bill for a number of years until I went into the Air Force in the 1960's. We both trapped and after I moved back to the area I tried to stop in and see him and swap stories every year. Fred had a great deal of knowledge about Pomfret History and was considered the informal local historian by many.
He was a good friend and one of the last Yankees. When I last saw him, 2-3 years ago, he was sitting on his porch, wood stove going, with his .300 Savage rifle handy. I will always remember that.. So long Fred.

Dearest Sirrine Family,
My Condolences…
I was saddened to learn of Fred’s passing…
What a joy and such a pleasure to have known Fred! : )
As a bank teller…I would often wait on him. Fred was so spry as an older gentleman.
He had the heart of a much younger man…always smiling…his demeanor always so joyful.
I got a kick out of his delight and the excitement in his voice as he shared his activities of the day. Some of which included his days of “Making Hay while the Sun Shines”….literally!! I was just so slack-jawed at his ability to operate a tractor… and at his age!! He was so full of vim and vigor…that of a much younger man. He always pulled away from my window at the drive-up with a twinkle in his eyes and with a smile of mischief in his heart. A truly delightful soul of a man!
Fred…I’m sure gonna miss you!! ; )
