Obituary of Cleo F. Carter
Cleo F. Carter, 85 of Babbitt Hill Rd, Pomfret, died Sunday at Village Manor in Plainfield. Husband of Eleanor Ruth (Mann) Carter, she died in 2004. Born in Ware NH, son of the late Earl and Muriel (Partington) Carter. He made his home in Pomfret since 1946.
Employed at Hale Manufacturing in Ballouville for 25 years, retiring in 1988 as a supervisor and also for Pratt & Whitney. A veteran of WWII, serving in the US Army in India, Burma and Central Burma with Company B 1007th Engineers Special Service Battalion. A member of the Abington Congregational Church, a member of their dartball league for over 30 years, a member of the Wolf Den Grange #61 for over 50 years. An avid sports fan of UCONN Basketball, Patriots and Red Sox.
He leaves his children James Carter, John Carter both of Pomfret, Ruth Charter , husband David of Romulus, NY, three grandchildren, David Carter, wife Allyson of Dayville, Mary Charter, Judy Charter both of Romulus, NY, predeceased by a brother Vernon Carter, 1999.
A Memorial Service will be Saturday February 9th at 2:00 PM at the Abington Congregational Church, Route 97, Abington, burial in the spring at Abington Cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to the Abington Congregational Church, Memorial Fund, PO Box 289, Pomfret Center, CT 06259. Arrangements by Smith & Walker Funeral Home, Putnam.
