Obituary of Roger Rioux
Roger Wilfred Rioux, 92, passed away November 11, 2023. Roger was born April 3, 1931 in Springfield, Massachusetts to Wilfred and Irma Rioux. After graduating from High School, Roger joined the US Marine Corp, serving 4 years. He then enrolled at American International College, graduating in 1958 with a degree in Business. Roger later went on to earn a Masters Degree in Education, becoming a teacher at West Springfield High School, then Cape Cod Regional Technical School, finally retiring as Vice Principal in 1993.
In September 1955 Roger married the love of his life, Beatrice Duval, who survives him. They settled in West Springfield and welcomed four children into their world, Ellyn, Tom, Sue and Anne. In 1975 the family moved to Orleans, MA where Roger spent his summers cruising the waters of Cape Cod in his various boats.
After retiring, Roger and Bea enjoyed Cape Cod life for a number of years before venturing back to western MA, settling in Palmer, and eventually ending up in Danielson, CT.
Roger grew up in Springfield, learning about life by experiencing it - which he passed on to his grandchildren in adventurous stories of near misses and triumphant escapes from the perils of teen life, first cars, miscalculated plans, and sneaky mishaps.
He will always be remembered for his innate ability to connect with people and make friends no matter where he was. He made an impression on so many people during his life journey, positively inspiring anyone lucky enough to cross his path.
Roger was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Chatham, MA, a respected tax specialist with H&R Block, an accomplished carpenter and woodworker, a model train enthusiast, and most notably the Best Husband, Dad, and Pepere there ever was.
Roger is survived by his loving wife, Beatrice, son Thomas (Karen), daughters Ellyn Bernier, Susan Hibbert (Edward Soja), Anne (Scott) Tessier, Grandchildren Gregory (Berkeley), Emma (Shawn), Kathryn, Christopher, Jeremiah, Julia, Gabrielle, Great-grandson, Waylon, along with extended family, cousins, nephews and former sons in-law Kerry & John.
