Obituary of Vernis E. Kelly
Vernis E. (Carter) Kelly, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at Davis Place in Danielson, CT. Born December 20, 1931 in Pembroke, ME, the daughter of the late Herbert and Thelma (Anthony) Carter.
Vernis graduated from Pembroke High School in 1949 and attended Husson College in 1950 where she earned a certificate in Clerical Studies.
Vernis was married to Philip Lee whom she met in Pembroke, while Philip served in the US Navy. They lived in Virginia before settling in Danielson.
Vernis worked for many years in the clerical/administrative field. Most notably employed by Rogers Corporation and later the State of Connecticut Labor and Training Division, retiring in 1995.
She was a devoted member of the Danielson Methodist Church, often volunteering her time in the soup kitchen. She enjoyed traveling, camping, knitting, solitaire puzzles, the daily crossword, watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and professional golf tournaments.
She leaves her children Raymond Lee and his wife Alice of Hampton, CT, Karen Safin and her husband Paul of Pomfret, CT, Charles Lee and Betti Sheldon of Danielson, CT, Terry Argeris and her husband Peter of Brooklyn, CT, Philip Lee Jr. and Kathy DiChristofaro of Danielson, CT. Her grandchildren John, Trevor, Kristen, Leslie, Alex, Christopher, Michelle, Justine, Stephanie and Michael, along with 8 great grandchildren. Cousins, Janice Stanhope and her husband Richard of Pembroke, ME, her niece Sharon Fields of Waterville, ME and nephew Randy Carter of Ellsworth ME. She was predeceased by her brother Paul Carter.
Calling hours and service to be held Friday, February 2, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Gagnon and Costello funeral home, 33 Reynolds St. Danielson, CT. Funeral service to start at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in the Spring in her beloved hometown of Pembroke, ME. Share a memory at Gagnonandcostellofh.com
