Obituary of Dorothy L. Asikainen
Dorothy Linnea (Swanson) Asikainen, 94, of Pomfret Center, died March 6, 2024 with family by her side after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of the late Reino Tapi Asikainen. She was born in Putnam, CT, August 31, 1929 to the late Axel and Elin (Johnson) Swanson.
Dorothy was a 1947 graduate of Tourtellotte Memorial High School. She worked as a receptionist at the Pediatric Center at Day Kimball Hospital, and was a life member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Thompson. Dorothy loved playing rummy and bingo, knitting, gardening, and watching the Boston Red Sox and UCONN Women’s Basketball. After her retirement, she spent many years in the Mount Washington Valley NH before coming back to Pomfret and Seely Brown Village.
She leaves two sons: Edward (Sandra) Asikainen of Forty Fort, PA; Carl (Dr. Samantha) Asikainen of Eastford, CT, and four daughters: Karen Carpenter of Peaks Island, ME; Joan Asikainen of the Villages, FL; Susan (John) Clough of Laconia, NH; Donna Lehtonen of Port Orchard, WA, as well as a sister-in-law Irene Swanson of Thompson, CT, nieces Andrea Whitman of Ludlow, VT, and Kathie Kelly of Woodstock, CT, 10 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.
