Obituary of Yvette A. Wojcik

Yvette “Ginger” Tetreault Wojcik, 99, of Brooklyn, CT passed away peacefully on May 6, 2024, surrounded by those who loved her dearly. She was born on August 28, 1924 to the late Ernest Tetreault and Yvonne Ouelette Tetreault in Moosup, CT. There, she attended All Hallows Catholic School. She married her sweetheart, Joseph Walter Wojcik, Sr. after a whirlwind romance in 1947. They purchased property and built their home, the very same home she still resided in. Yvette was employed by Anchor (Knox) Glass for 25 years.

“Ginger” and Joe shared a beautiful life together doing the activities they loved most. Gardening, dancing, going to see live orchestras (especially Lawrence Welk), going to Ocean Beach where they were crowned Mr. and Miss Ocean Beach on one of their earliest dates, and later spending every possible moment with their grandchildren. Later in life, “Memere” enjoyed visits from her great grandchildren whom she loved very much. She had a classic iconic, glamorous, impeccable style. Her favorite excursion was to go shopping at T.J. Maxx, stop for a mani-pedi and then wrap up the day at Jade Garden for a “nice exotic drink”, chicken fingers, French fries and gravy. She taught her son, grandchildren and even great grandchildren how to make perfect crepes, “Memere Spaghetti”, mocha chocolate cake and numerous other specialties.

In addition to her husband Joseph who passed away in 1989, Yvette was pre-deceased by her brothers Andrew, Caroll and Dugan, as well as her sisters Angeline, Jeanette, Leona, Rita and June.

Yvette is survived by her sister Florette MacFarlane of Willimantic, CT; son Joseph W. Wojcik, Jr. of Brooklyn, CT; granddaughters Amy Carlone (Anthony) of Bristol, RI, Melody Thorstenson (Timothy) of Danielson, CT, Pashea Benton (Keith) of Suffield, CT;  grandson Kyle Wojcik of Brooklyn, CT; great-granddaughters Yvey McDowell (Nate Curtis), Lauren Thorstenson (Sean Silvestro), Lilah Benton and Elina Benton; great-grandsons Robert Brooks, Payton Brooks (Jordan Provost), Reid Dumas (Erica Elliott with a great-great grandson on the way), Joshua Dumas and Aaron Thorstenson (Reed Harding).

Yvette, Ginger, Mom, Memere…You will forever be in our hearts.  We know you will be dancing in heaven for eternity with your one and only love Joe, to your song, “Always”.
