Obituary of James D. Montgomery

James D. Montgomery, 82, of Brooklyn, CT passed away May 12, 2024 at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, CT. He was born April 11, 1942 in Roscoe, PA son of the late Alf B. and Kathryn (Gollick) Montgomery. He was the beloved husband of Eileen Montgomery for 61 years.

Jim spent his younger years traveling the United States and Japan where he attended many schools. He was a graduate of Lincoln-Sudbury High School where he met the love of his life Eileen. Jim served in the United States Navy Submarine Services for 20 years retiring in 1981. After the Navy he worked for 20 years at Anchor Glass, retiring in 2004 from Winchester, Indiana as Plant Engineer. After retirement he was a substitute teacher at Ellis Tech for three years. At the age of 50 Jim went back to school and earned his Bachelors at Eastern Connecticut State University. He was a Communicant of St. James Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the prestigious USSVI Holland Club for Submariner Veterans. Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and he would never miss a game his children or grandchildren played in. He was an avid hunter and got his last doe with his best friend/son Doug at the age of 81, he was also an avid fisherman. He was a fan of the Red Sox, Redskins and of UConn Huskies Basketball.

He leaves his wife Eileen Montgomery; his son Douglas Montgomery and his wife Becky; his daughters Theresa Morin and her husband Wayne, Patricia Buell and her husband Tom and Christine Wakefield and her husband Todd; his grandchildren Erika, Alicia, Kate, Kyle, Kara, Keith, Laura, Jake, Carlee, Amanda and Todd; his 15 great grandchildren and his great-great granddaughter; his sister Bobbi Fortner and his brother Charles Montgomery. He was predeceased by his In-laws Allen and Helen Dougherty whom he loved spending time with.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 10:30 AM at St. James Church, 12 Franklin Street, Danielson, CT, followed by Military Funeral Honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to St. James Church. Share a memory at Gagnonandcostellofh.com
