Obituary of Mary LoPiccolo

Mary “Polly” LoPiccolo (née Bush) of Pomfret, CT, wife of Nick LoPiccolo, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2024, surrounded by her family at the age of 77 after a year-long struggle with lung cancer. Born on September 21, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio, Polly was raised in Watertown, MA. She graduated from Watertown High School and went on to study psychiatric nursing at McLean Hospital School of Nursing and had a fulfilling career as an inpatient psychiatric nurse. She met the love of her life while on spring break in Daytona Beach; they shared 57 years of a life filled with family, dear friends, many adventures, and a great love. She and Nick lived in many places, including Syracuse, NY, Evanston, IL, and finally Arlington, TX where they raised their family. They moved to Pomfret, CT in 1999 onto the family property where they became innkeepers at the Inn at Fox Hill Farm. Polly loved the beach, any beach, but owing to family history and summer trips, her ’happy place’ was always the island of Martha’s Vineyard. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Patricia LoPiccolo and grandson Teo Portugal of Brooklyn, NY; her daughter Linda and son-in-law David, and grandchildren Max and Ruby Ring of Pomfret, CT; her son James and daughter-in-law Lisa (née Mata), and grandchildren Frank and Marie LoPiccolo of Arlington, TX; her son Michael and daughter-in-law Emily Bright, and granddaughter Olivia LoPiccolo of Austin, TX; her brother-in-law Frank LoPiccolo of Brooklyn, NY; her niece Cathy and nephew-in-law Daniel Batlle of Arlington, TX; her nephew Timothy and niece-in-law Lisa Bush of Arlington, TX; and countless dear friends. Polly was predeceased by her parents Mac and Jane (née Mathewson) Bush; her brother Chandler and sister in law Jean Bush and their daughter Amy Bush; her grandson Leonardo Mathewson Ring; her dear friend Linda Ellsworth. Once in Pomfret, Polly spent nearly twenty years as a psychiatric nurse. She dedicated her life to caring for others, most especially her family, friends. Many lives were touched by her gentle kindness and unconditional love. Funeral services will be held at Christ Church in Pomfret, August 7, 2024 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, and if so inclined, please consider gifts to non-profits that support organizations that have touched Polly’s life and those that support Pomfret, which she loved so dearly: Pomfret Historical Society, Fidelco, Jewish Family and Children’s Services of MA, Family and Children’s Agency of CT, Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
