Jean A. Murphy, of Pomfret Center, CT, died March 27, 2008 at Pierce Memorial Baptist Home in Brooklyn, CT. Born in Trenton, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Evelyn M. (Doolan) Murphy, Sr., and had lived most of her life in New England. Ms. Murphy was a graduate of Southern Virginia Women's College, the Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing in Montclair, NJ, and had advanced educational degrees from Teachers College of Columbia University in New York City. Her professional career was devoted to nursing and education. She was a member of Christ Church in Pomfret and numerous community and professional organizations. She was former resident of Mercerville, NJ. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Judy Murphy of Wall Township, NJ, and sons: Melvin (Pete) Murphy, of West Boylston, MA, Michael Murphy of Kernersville, NC, Kevin Murphy of Orefield, PA, a sister-in-law, Eileen Murphy of Rochdale, MA and children: Lisa Albro of Rochdale, MA; Jack Murphy of Mendon, MA. There are no calling hours. Graveside services. Burial will be in Glendola Cemetery, Wall, NJ at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial be given to a charity of one's choice. The Smith & Walker Funeral Home, Putnam, CT is directing arrangements.
